How to Save a Life in 12 Minutes Using Hands-Only CPR

Hands-only CPR may help you keep someone alive when seconds really count.  If a person stops breathing, or his or her heartbeat stops beating, 12 minutes can mean the difference between life and death.

According to the American Red Cross — on average, it takes first responders 8 to 12 minutes to respond to a 911 call.

Events that affect people’s health can happen in any community.  They may come in the form of disease outbreaks, natural disasters, or every day incidents like power outages and heat waves.

When a disaster strikes, or an emergency event develops, you may be called upon to help save someone’s life — like a family member, a neighbor, a friend, a co-worker, or even a stranger.  It’s critical to make sure that the injured person receives help before emergency responders arrive.

If you know how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), or hands-only CPR, you may be able to keep someone alive for a few critical minutes.  Those vital minutes gives first responders time to arrive and help the patient.
