How to Prepare for Survival

It is imperative that everyone form healthy habits and know how to prepare for survival.

There are a number of potential natural disasters we all face, such as tornadoes, hurricanes, fires, floods, severe storms and earthquakes.

Though we hope that these occurrences never happen, they are inevitable.prepare for survival

Prepare for Survival

It’s crucial we be prepared, during and immediately after a disaster. Emergency service personnel and government agencies cannot respond to our needs in many situations due to hampered mobility, communications, personnel and equipment.

Therefore it is essential that we establish a plan to be on our own for a minimum of three days. We may be without water, food, electricity, phone, and Internet service. It’s also highly important to have a disaster emergency kit available and up-to-date.

Survival Plan and Preparedness

Here are some suggestions and healthy habits that work on how to plan and prepare for survival:

  • Find out what disasters could happen in your vicinity; for instance hurricanes, floods, snow, etc.
  • What is your community’s warning signals—what do they sound like? Find out what radio stations will provide emergency information
  • Know your disaster plan at your job, your children’s school or daycare center
  • Create a disaster plan. Meet and discuss with all the people in your household why you need to have a disaster plan and what type of disaster you may encounter
  • Discuss your evacuation plan for members of your household, including pets
  • Determine your “safe rooms” in your home or workplace—rooms that will provide you and your family the best protection during an emergency
  • Have a “disaster supply kit”
