Going Green Is Easy!

Green Living

By going green you have the opportunity to do something good for yourself, your family, your community, and the entire world.

I’m not talking about saving the planet by you doing massive action.  It’s about all of us doing a little—it all adds up to make our world healthier and cleaner.

The fact remains that Earth has a limited amount of natural resources.  In addition, the human population is growing exponentially and we’re using available resources at an overwhelming pace.  Plus, our waterways, air and land are getting polluted by our waste, causing harm to our health and natural environment.

Here Are Some Solutions

We can lessen the dangers by “reducing, reusing and recycling.”  Here are some solutions we can all do to reduce our negative impact on Mother Earth:

  • Use reusable shopping bags
  • Lead a cleanup campaign in your neighborhood
  • Start a recycling project at your workplace
  • Buy products with less packaging—instead of pre-bagged potatoes, buy loose potatoes
  • Buy local products
  • Recycle your used printer, copier and fax cartridges
  • Improve energy efficiency

For example, compact fluorescent light bulbs use 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs.  And if you were to reduce your garbage by just 10% you can reduce your carbon footprint to about 1,200 pounds per year!

Your carbon footprint is a measurement of the amount of carbon dioxide produced by an individual within a certain time frame.  Here is some additional information to help you understand your ecological (carbon) footprint.

Don’t Forget Our Wildlife

According to the National Wildlife Federation, global warming is the single most urgent threat to wildlife.

Take responsibility and try to protect and restore our wildlife habitat for their sake, and the sake of future generations.  You can start in your backyard.  Provide birds with the food, water and shelter they need to survive.

Inspire children to learn more about nature and how important a clean environment is for our survival.

Reasons We Should Do This

Future generations can learn from us if we get them involved in green projects. Doing these projects also strengthens the bonds with our community, neighbors, family and friends.

Living greener lives enables us to preserve our natural environment.

By using fewer resources we become less dependent on foreign energy.

By reducing our ecological footprint we help make our planet healthier for future generations.
